Inside Marketing // Sam Davies – Digital Noir

Welcome to episode two, series two of Inside Marketing. Join Newstyle Media’s Ideas Chick Mikyla Gilbert as she interviews some of South Australia’s most successful and entrepreneurial marketers and business owners. We discover what works – and what doesn’t in marketing and business from some our state’s best business minds.

We set up shop in Adelaide’s greatest bars and clubs, to take a quiet moment (and often a cheeky drink) to reflect on what our guests have learnt. Each episode we get into the nitty-gritty of the reality of modern business in South Australia and ask the questions you’ve been desperate to hear. Think of this as your one on one networking or mentoring session! Without the noise and the babble of a networking event, cut down to the core to the information all marketers seek. What our guests impart might just be the tidbit you are searching for!

For our second episode of the new season, we visit the dark side with Sam Davies, owner and director of Adelaide-based boutique Web and App Design Development company Digital Noir.

This fascinating interview uncovers the mysterious world of app development. Often prescribed to the IT department, Sam blows the lid on this prescriptive thought. Digital Noir is an agency that is making web and app development sexy and will have you scribbling ideas down on the nearest bar napkin!

The most important takeaway? Your website can have all the pretty pictures you like, yet if it doesn’t have a good interactive flow you won’t get the connections that you desire. You need to be asking questions constantly: think like your consumer. What are people looking for when they come to your homepage? How can you make that information easier for them to ingest? Always be seeking to make a better user experience for your customer. In other words, do not set and forget your website. Another key takeaway? Video is king, says Sam.

“Video is really important. A pretty picture can help tell the story but give them the information they need quickly. Video is a great way to tell that information in a short and sharp way. People have a short attention span.”

Covering topics as diverse as social media, self-promotion, marketing, bricks and mortar business, chatbots and the second biggest search engine after Google (it will surprise you) this is a brilliant interview.

If you want to discover how to stay atop the constantly changing flux of the digital sphere then this one is for you!
